Make an Umbrella

THINGS REQUIRED
A sheet of white card paper, measuring 10 cm square; compass; pencil; ruler; empty plastic ballpen refill; two long strips of coloured chart paper, one broader than the other; paints; paintbrush; scissors and glue.

METHOD
1. On the square of the white card paper draw a circle measuring 7 cm in diameter. Divide the circle into 8 segments by drawing dotted lines. Join the lines with arcs as shown.
2. Cut out the shaded portions (the arcs) and the eighth segment using the illustration as a guide. Fold gently along the dotted lines till the ends come toegther. Glue the open ends together. Colour the inside and outside of the umbrella in bright colours.
3. Roll the two strips of coloured chart paper tightly around the refill as shown — the broad strip on the open end of the refill, which will form the handle of the umbrella, and the narrow strip just below the pointed end of the refill.
4. Push the refill’s pointed end through the centre of the umbrella you have made. Now, holding the handle, twirl your colourful creation around! hu.... interesting.....
